After Memorial Open - Orlando Florida

Sunday, June 15, 2008

I just got back from what will from this day forth be known as the "SMACK DOWN IN O-TOWN". And just so we are all on the same page I was on the receiving end of the smacks. Actually it wasn't that bad. Below is a quick breakdown of each round. I'm leaving out names of players because I just don't remember everyone, but I'll give a better report in a few days.

Round 1: Great game probably should have been a draw, but in my own unique chess strategic mind I found the one move to guarantee me a lost.

Round 2: Got out played and deserved to lose. In my own defense I wasn't expecting a win. I only out rated my opponent by 200 points.

Round 3: Got a draw! I changed my game plan based on my opponent. I just needed to drag the game out. We started our game around 6:00 p.m and my goal was to stretch this out as long as possible because I figured anything later then 7:30 or 8 had to be pass his bed time. I mean how late can a six year old stay up?

Round 4: Got my first W. Nice game especially after my opponent blundered a rook.

Round 5: Got another W. This game was a solid game and I was complimented on the endgame.

I'll post all the games in a few days for your amusement.

As a side note I did notice only about 20 players were in the open section. Are gas prices killing chess too?
